I will take you out of trouble,
and you will honor Me.”

Charles Spurgeon's
Daily Devotions
The Fifth of October.
From Spurgeon's
"Faith's Check Book"
279 - At God's Bidding
“Then the people who are left of Jacob
will be among many people like water
on the ground in the early morning
from the Lord, like rain on the grass,
which does not wait for man.”
Micah 5:7
If this be true of the literal Israel, much more
is it true of the spiritual Israel,
the believing people of God.
When saints are what they should be,
they are an incalculable blessing to those
among whom they are scattered.
They are as the dew; for in a quiet,
unobtrusive manner they refresh those around them.
Silently but effectually they minister to the life,
growth, and joy of those who dwell with them.
Coming fresh from heaven, glistening like diamonds
in the sun, gracious men and women attend to the
feeble and insignificant till each blade of grass has
its own drop of dew.
Little as individuals, they are, when united,
all-sufficient for the purposes of love which the Lord
fulfills through them.
Dew drops accomplish the refreshing of broad acres.
Lord, make us like the dew!
Godly people are as showers which come
at God's bidding without man's leave and license.
They work for God whether men desire it or not;
they no more ask human permission than the
rain does.
Lord, make us thus boldly prompt and free in
Thy service wherever our lot is cast.

Doing Nothing…
He made no mistakes;
He took no wrong turns,
He never fumbled the ball.
He never went down
‘Neath the weight of the load,
He simply did nothing at all.
He lost no hard fight
In defense of the right,
He never bled
With his back to the wall,
He never felt faint
In his climb to the light,
He simply did nothing at all.
So death came nigh,
Life had slipped by;
He feared for the judgment hall.
And when asked why,
He said with a sigh,
“I’ve done nothing at all.”
O, God will pardon your blunders,
My friends,
Or regard with pity your fall,
But the one great sell,
That surely means HELL,
Is simply to do nothing at all.

PILING UP TOMORROWS!
In Meredith Wilson's MUSIC MAN,
the professor tried to get Marion the librarian
to go out with him.
He asked her to meet him at the footbridge
across the stream running through the park.
She wanted to, but she refused.
She said, "Please, some other time.
Maybe tomorrow."
The professor persisted,
yet she continued to put off their meeting.
Finally, in exasperation, he said…
"Pile up enough tomorrows and you'll find
that you've collected nothing but a lot of
empty yesterdays."

"The secret of peace within,
and power without,
is to be always and only
occupied with Christ."
- E. Schuyler English
There’s NO STORM
That God won’t carry you through.
NO BRIDGE
That God won’t help you cross.
NO BATTLE
That God won’t help you win.
NO HEARTACHE
That God won’t help you let go of.
He is SO much bigger than
Anything you will face today.
Leave everything in His hands
And embrace this day confidently
Knowing that He WILL
Take care of you.

When you were born,
You cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life in such a manner
That when you die
The world cries and you rejoice.

Help…
Don’t ask,
“Has the world been a friend to me?”
But
“Have I to the world been true?”
Tis not what you get,
But what you give,
That makes life worthwhile to you.
Tis the kind word
Said to the little child
As you wiped its tears away,
And the smile
You brought to some careworn face,
That really lights up your day.
Tis the hand you clasp
With an honest grasp
That gives you a hearty thrill,
Tis the good
You pour into other lives
That comes back your own to fill,
Tis the dregs
You drain from another’s cup,
That makes your own so sweet.
And the hours
You give to your brother man,
That makes your own life complete.
Tis the burdens
You help another bear,
That makes your own seem light;
Tis the danger
Seen for another’s feet,
That shows you the path of right.
Tis the good
You do each passing day,
With a heart sincere and true…
For through
Giving the world your very best,
Its best will return to you.

To give real service
You must add something
Which cannot be bought
Or measured with money,
And that it sincerity
And integrity.
- Donald A. Adams
So, then,
To every man his chance…
To every man,
Regardless of his birth,
His shining golden opportunity…
To every man his right to live,
To work,
To be himself,
To become whatever his manhood
And his vision
Can combine to make him…
This, seeker, is the promise of America.
- Thomas Wofe
We are face to face
With our destiny,
And we must meet it
With a high and
Resolute courage.
For us is the life of action,
Of strenuous performance
Of duty.
Let us live in the harness,
Striving mightily.
Let us rather run the risk
Of wearing out than rusting out.
- Theodore Roosevelt

A Note From Hayden…
Growing up in Smallville,
Western Kentucky
Following Major League Baseball…
You were either a Cardinals or Reds fan.
I chose to follow the Cincinnati Reds.
As a youngster listening on the radio
To the exploits of “The Big Red Machine”
Was something I enjoyed very much!
My dad even bought us a Johnny Bench
catcher’s mitt.
I was so disappointed in one
Of my boyhood heroes Pete Rose
One of the greatest players who ever
played the game…
When we learned he had gambled
On Reds baseball games
while he managed the team.
I have read his book,
and his life story is a
Cautionary tale of
associating with the
“Wrong crowd.”

(April 14, 1941 – September 30, 2024),
nicknamed "Charlie Hustle",
was an American professional baseball player
and manager.
He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from
1963 to 1986,
most prominently as a member of the
Cincinnati Reds lineup
known as the Big Red Machine for their
dominance of the
National League in the 1970s.
He also played for the Philadelphia Phillies,
where he won
his third World Series championship in 1980,
and had a brief stint with the Montreal Expos.
He managed the Reds from 1984 to 1989.
Rose was a switch hitter and is MLB's all-time
Leader in hits (4,256),

He made 17 All-Star appearances in an
unequaled five positions
(second baseman, left fielder, right fielder,
third baseman, and first baseman).
He won two Gold Glove awards when he was
an outfielder, in 1969 and 1970.
In August 1989 (his last year as a manager
and three years after retiring as a player),
Rose was penalized with
permanent ineligibility from baseball
amidst accusations that he
while he played for and managed the Reds;
the charges of wrongdoing included claims
that he bet on his own team.
In 1991, the Baseball Hall of Fame formally
voted to ban those on the "permanently ineligible"
list from induction,
after previously excluding such players by
informal agreement among voters.
After years of public denial, he admitted in
2004 that he bet
on baseball and on the Reds.[2]
The issue of his election to the Hall of Fame
Remains contentious throughout baseball.[3]
