From the banks of Burcham Creek…

Stealing…

When I was a young boy my brother

Tim and I visited our grandparents

Woodrow & Ozell Childs during

The summer upon occasion.

I remember one such visit

Pa brought out an old B.B. gun

For us to shoot.

A neighborhood boy about our age

came be to play with us.

When the young friend left to go

back home I noticed the

B.B. gun was missing.

This was probably the first time

I dealt with such a loss.

I was reminded of this recently when

A co-worker and friend that I work with

Recently made a 2-week trip to Europe

With another co-worker.

When they got back to Huntsville Airport

Their luggage was not there.

For several days my friend called about his

Things. Finally, the luggage appeared

However, his watch was missing

From his things.

It was a gift from his fiancé and he really

Was disappointed about the

Theft of the watch.

The Bible has something to say

About stealing.

In one of the 10 commandments

God gave to Moses the Word simply

States… “You shall not steal” Exodus 20:15.

In the New Testament the Apostle Paul

Reminded the church at Ephesus…

“Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather

Let him labor working with His hands what

Is good, that he may have something to give

Him who has need” Ephesians 5:28.

Did you realize there are many ways to steal?

Here is an example to consider…

How many workers in America

steal from their employers

Daily?

When they punch the time clock

They are being paid to do their job

not to browse their cell phone checking

out their social media pages

or texting family and friends.

Think about it…

Leave the phone in your auto

And in the words of Coach Saban…

“Do Your Job.”

The old lessons (work, self-discipline,

Sacrifice, teamwork, fighting to achieve)

Aren’t being taught by many people other

Than football coaches these days.

The football coach has a captive audience

And can teach these lessons because the

Communication lines between himself and

His players are more wide open than between

Kids and parents.

We better teach these lessons or else the

Country’s future population will be made up

Of a majority of crooks, drug addicts,

Or people on relief.

I have tried to teach them to show class,

To have pride, and to display character.

I think football, winning games,

Takes care of itself if you do that.

- Coach Paul Bryant

In order to have a winner,

the team must have a feeling of unity,

Every player must put the team first…

ahead of personal glory.

- Coach Paul Bryant

Coach Paul Bryant said there are

five things winning team members

need to know…

1. What is expected from each one.

2. That each one will have an opportunity to perform.

3. How each one is getting along.

4. That guidance will be given where each need it.

5. That each one will be rewarded according to his contribution.

Where is your “happy place”?

Have you thought about that?

Is it knee deep wetting a hook in

the TN River?

Or swinging a golf club at your

Favorite course?

Is it deep in the woods waiting

For a deer to appear?

Is it spending time with your

grandchildren as they grow up.

Is it where you worship God

With your brothers and sisters

In Christ?

Yes, where is YOUR “happy place?”

What Really Counts!

Don’t tell me what you’ll do,

When you have time to spare.

Tell me what you did today

To ease a load of care.

Don’t tell me what you will give

When your ship comes in from sea;

Tell me what you gave today…

A fettered soul to free.

Don’t tell me the dreams you have

Of conquest still afar,

Don’t say what you hope to be,

But show me what you are.

Pray Don’t Find Fault…

“Pray don’t find fault with the man who limps
Or stumbles along the road,
Unless you have worn the shoes he wears,
Or struggled beneath his load.

There may be tacks in his shoes that hurt,
Though hidden away from view,
The burden he bears, placed on your back,
Might cause you to stumble too.

Don’t sneer at the man who’s down today ,
Unless you have felt the blow,
That caused his fall or felt the shame,
That only the fallen know.

You may be strong, but still the blows,
That were his if dealt to you,
In the selfsame way, at the selfsame time,
Might cause you to stagger too.

Don’t be too harsh with the man who sins,
Or pelt him with word or stone,
Unless you are sure, yea, doubly sure,
That you have no sins of your own,

For you know perhaps if the tempter’s voice,
Should whisper as softly to you,
As it did to him when he went astray,
It might cause you to stumble too”

No, there is no failure for the man

who realizes his power,

Who never knows when he is beaten;

there is no failure

For the determined endeavor

the unconquerable will.

There is no failure for the man

who gets up every time

He falls, who rebounds like a rubber ball,

who persists

When everyone else gives up,

who pushes on when everyone

Else turns back.

The man that hath no music in himself,

Nor is not moved with concord

Of sweet sounds,

Is fit for treasons, stratagems,

The motions of his spirit are dull as night,

Let no such man be trusted.
